Released: 2009
Director: James Cameron
Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver

Film: Set in 2154 when Earth is in a global energy crisis, a mission is launched to send man to a distant world, Pandora, to mine for materials. Since Pandora’s atmosphere is toxic to humans, the only way for them to proceed with their mission is to operate human/Na’vi hybrids. They face a great deal of challenges from the Na’vi, a native tribal humanoid species, and from creatures present on Pandora. A paraplegic marine who takes over his brother’s place in the mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

Composer: Famed for his lush, sweeping scores for films including Braveheart, Apollo 13, and Titanic, the prolific composer James Horner has been nominated for 86 awards from Grammys to Academy Awards, winning 53 of them. The goal with the musical score for Avatar was to resonate traditional film sensibilities, but also to introduce something new, by working with an ethnomusicologist to create a music culture for the Na’vi of Pandora. Travel back to Pandora with this suite from the film “Avatar”, featuring soulful Na’vi hymns and dramatic battle music. Standout portions of the Oscar-nominated score by James Horner (1953-2015) have been seamlessly combined and adapted for performance as a concert piece.  Avatar: Suite sweeps the listener away to an epic, otherworldly fantasy.
