Alabama Public Radio (APR) will broadcast highlights from Mobile Symphony’s recent seasons Monday, October 23, 2023 through Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 8:00 each evening. APR Music Director David Duff will host the programs and interview MSO Music Director Scott Speck about the selections. Monday, October 23 includes music from Celebrate!, our 2021-2022 season opener: Hailstork’s Fanfare on Amazing Grace, Ward’s American the Beautiful and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The program ends with Bella Hristova’s amazing performance of Sait-Saens’ Violin Concerto No. 2.

Tuesday, October 24 is highlighted by the Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4 “Italian”, cellist Johnathan Swensen performing Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter” – and from the 2003 archives, Bret Heim soloing in the Guitar Concerto of Villa-Lobos.

Wednesday, October 25 focuses on our March 12, 2022 Beethoven & Blue Jeans with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 and Charlie Albright’s astounding performance of the Grieg Piano Concerto. You’ll also hear an archival 2007 performance of Enen Yu in the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5.

Thursday, October 26 features Beethoven’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage and Haydn’s Symphony No. 104. The series concludes with our blockbuster John Williams Jubilee concert from 2022.
