This thrilling concert combines some of the best works of America's favorite composer, John Williams. Music from Harry Potter, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, E.T. and more.
We open our season with an all-time favorite – Scheherazade, featuring our concertmaster, Jenny Grégoire. The concert includes Capriccio Espagnol, another Rimsky-Korsakov favorite. These two amazing works are convincing proof of why Rimsky-Korsakov is considered a master of orchestration.
Our annual casual concert features one Beethoven’s most popular symphonies – the 7th. Kentucky-born Tessa Lark plays a bluegrass-inspired violin concerto written for her by Michael Torke. Works by Aaron Copland complete the American theme.

We co-commissioned Jennifer Higdon's Mandolin Concerto, together with the Munich Philharmonic and Chicago Philharmonic, and now we are thrilled to perform it for you. In addition to welcoming Avi Avital, the first classical mandolinist ever nominated for a Grammy, we are delighted that Jennifer herself will be on hand to introduce the piece for you!
Two of Russian music’s most romantic masterworks make this an irresistible concert: Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Joyce Yang.
Brahms’ fourth symphony is a stellar masterpiece. We also feature Weber’s Euryanthe Overture and Caroline Shaw’s Music in Common Time featuring the University of South Alabama Concert Choir and Mobile Opera Chorus.
We contrast Howard Shore’s brilliant score to Lord of the Rings with orchestral highlights from Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle. Works include The Ride of the Walkyrie and Siegfried’s Rhine Journey, as well as music from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, the Two Towers and Fellowship of the Ring.
