SUMMARY:A Celtic Christmas
DESCRIPTION:“When Cherish the Ladies first appeared with our orchestra\, the experience was not only exquisite but also unexpected. We knew these women could make great music — but we didn’t realize they could be so hilarious. Joanie Madden should patent her wacky sense of humor. She’s a national treasure. I’m sure Ireland and America are fighting over her. I can’t wait to see what she and the group bring to their Christmas concert with us!” – Scott Speck\, Music Director \nThe Mobile Symphony is joined by the popular Irish group Cherish the Ladies for a Celtic Christmas celebration! Mobile audiences loved them when they celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with the orchestra several years ago. These high-energy women are back with a new Christmas show packed with great music\, Irish dancers\, holiday fun and a few surprises. “It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn’t enjoy what they do\,” says The Boston Globe of this Grammy Award-nominated Irish-American supergroup. Cherish The Ladies has thrilled audiences worldwide with timeless Irish traditions and good cheer. \nSingle tickets on sale August 21\, 2019. Tickets are $15\, $20\, $33\, $45\, $65 and $80 and can be purchased online\, by phone at 251-432-2010\, or at the symphony box office\, 257 Dauphin Street. SUMMARY:Straight from the Soundtrack
DESCRIPTION:Out of Africa won seven Academy Awards\, including picture and music score. Meryl Streep and Robert Redford headlined this sweeping romance\, set during the 1910s\, about a determined Dutch woman\, owner of a coffee plantation in Africa\, and her difficult relationships with the men in her life. \nIn a film composing career that ran for 40 years and involved more than 150 movies and TV shows\, Horner won a lofty reputation. His best-known score was for Titanic. His music for Avatar (2009) sweeps us away into a colorful and exciting world of adventure. \nWilliams is the most renowned modern-day film composer. His more than 100 scores for directors such as Steven Spielberg have brought him 51 Oscar nominations and five awards. He has also won success as conductor\, composer of concert music\, and recording artist. He is best known for such blockbuster fantasy series as Star Wars\, Indiana Jones\, and the first three films in the Harry Potter series. \nGreat composers are as essential as Hollywood stars. You’ll know why when we perform your favorite scores live. \nFebruary 9\, 2019 | 7:30pm-9:30pm\nFebruary 10\, 2019 | 2:30pm-4:30pm\nScott Speck conductor \nProgram:\nKorngold | Suite from The Adventures of Robin Hood\nBarry | Somewhere in Time\nBarry | Out of Africa\nHorner | Suite from Avatar\nGoldsmith | Star Trek VIII\nMorricone | The Mission\nWintory | Rendezvous\nWilliams | Harry Potter \nSponsored By:\nPaul & Anne Low\nAllan & Nancy Rowe

SUMMARY:Beethoven & Blue Jeans
DESCRIPTION:Beethoven’s friends have left ample evidence of his deep love of nature. Hardly a day passed when he didn’t take a long walk through the woods and fields surrounding Vienna\, drinking in the sights and sounds of the countryside. His sketchbook for his sixth symphony’s composition contained such musings as “leave the listeners to work out the situations for themselves\,” and “all tone-painting will lose its effect in instrumental music if pushed too far.” \nTime for Three is a group that defies any traditional genre classification\, happily and infectiously. With an uncommon mix of virtuosity and showmanship\, the American trio performs music from Bach to ingenious mash-ups of hits by the Beatles\, Kanye West\, Katy Perry\, Justin Timberlake and more. \nNovember 17\, 2018 | 7:30pm-9:30pm\nNovember 18\, 2018 | 2:30pm-4:30pm\nScott Speck conductor\nTime for Three string trio \nProgram:\nRossini | William Tell Overture\nBrubeck | Travels in Time for Three\nBeethoven | Symphony No. 6 \nSponsored By:\n\nJim & Karen Atchison
